What TRCs do

Trauma Recovery Coaches provide non-clinical, trauma-informed support that helps clients stabilize, build skills, and stay engaged in care.

In our center, TRCs are trained in mindfulness practices (e.g., present-moment awareness, breathwork, grounding) and work alongside licensed mental health therapists.

All TRC services are delivered under the supervision of a master’s-level mental health therapist with over 25 years of experience, ensuring coordination, safety, and fidelity to evidence-based care.

Healing Benefits for Clients

Reduced post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety through mindfulness skills.
Mindfulness-based programs such as MBSR/MBCT show small-to-moderate improvements in PTSD symptoms across trials and reviews, with added benefits for stress biomarkers (e.g., cortisol) and mood—making them strong adjuncts to therapy. PubMedPMC+2PMC+2

Better engagement and continuity of care.
Peer-style supports and paraprofessional roles are associated with improvements in recovery-oriented outcomes and reduced rehospitalizations; supervised non-licensed providers can deliver structured interventions with fidelity comparable to clinicians, which helps clients practice skills between therapy sessions. PMC+2PMC+2

Improved outcomes via integrated, collaborative care.
When coaching/support roles are embedded in collaborative models (care manager + consulting clinician + treating therapist), depression and trauma-related outcomes improve more than usual care in multiple randomized studies and meta-analyses. AIMS Center -PMCSpringerLink

Why This Matters

Trauma care often requires steady practice and support between therapy sessions. TRCs extend the therapy “container,” helping clients apply mindfulness and self-regulation skills in daily life, which research links to symptom relief and stress reduction. PMC

Integrating TRCs within a supervised, collaborative framework aligns with evidence that coordinated, team-based behavioral health care outperforms usual care and increases access. AIMS Center -PMC

Mindfulness & PTSD
Meta-analyses/RCTs show MBSR and related mindfulness programs produce moderate PTSD symptom reductions and stress-physiology benefits. PubMedPMC+1

Peer/Paraprofessional & Coaching-type Supports
Systematic reviews and trials indicate benefits for recovery outcomes and reduced utilization; supervised paraprofessionals can deliver structured mental-health interventions with strong fidelity. PMC+2PMC+2

Collaborative/Integrated Care
Decades of trials/meta-analyses support collaborative care for depression/anxiety, with extensions to PTSD populations and trauma-informed collaborative models. AIMS Center -PMCSpringerLink

Note: TRCs are not a substitute for licensed therapy. In our center they function as supervised, mindfulness-informed partners who reinforce treatment, enhance safety and engagement, and support day-to-day recovery skills within a coordinated clinical team.
