Professionals at The Body-Based Mindfulness Center approach healing and recovery from the foundation that the body, mind, and spirit are intricately connected.
 
As such, we believe that mindfulness oriented and body-based practices are key components of healing and recovery from anxiety, depression, PTSD, C-PTSD, and other conditions that bring people to therapy.
 
Our providers invite clients to actively practice somatic skills and engage in healing interventions that address the whole health of an individual. We focus on helping you create new habits that reflect resilience and health as well as clear out the blocks related to habits that have become stuck or problematic.

What is Trauma?
The American Psychological Association defines trauma as "an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, crime, natural disaster, physical or emotional abuse, neglect, experiencing or witnessing violence, death of a loved one, war, and more. Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical. Longer term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships, and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea."

What is Recovery?
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has put forward a contemporary definition of recovery as “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.

What is Holistic Healing?
The National Institute of Health defines Holistic Medicine as "the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person-body, mind and spirit. It is a broad discipline comprising a wide range of practices aimed at the overall health of the (individual) patient."

What is Mindfulness?
Neurobiologist Dr. McLean Bolton of the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience defines mindfulness as "focusing your attention on experiencing the present without judgment from the past or worries about the future. It is training the brain to focus on sensory perception and motor behaviors as you experience them."
